| | Moscow Records boss Archie Hamilton is a long time friend of the FUSE London family, having previously contributed to a number of releases. Driven To Distraction, though, is his first FUSE outing since 2015. Interestingly, there's quite a bit of surprising variety amongst the two tracks; compare, for example, the title track's bouncy, deep house/acid house fusion. "Telegram", where wilder TB-303 acid lines and dubbed-out riffs ride an undulating, late night groove, is also rather nifty. In other words, it's a solid EP containing tracks tailor-made for different dancefloor situations. | |
| | According to Chapter 24's manifesto, the label believes in "music that tells stories: stories in sound". On Borderline, it sounds like they have found a kindred spirit in Claudia Ayala aka Masaya. This is the producer's second release on the label and the title track is a suitably epic piece of trance-techno, its filtered melodies building over a pulsing, slightly scuffled groove. Patrice Baumel, formerly of Trouw, assists in bringing the track to a darker place, courtesy of eerie hardcore riffs and a throbbing rhythm, with the original track's vocal sample turned into a shrieking horror sample. Johannes Brecht's take is slower but just as intense as a frazzled bass underpins those ghostly vocals, while Neil Flynn's version uses a more reflective, stripped back approach. | |
